Abstract :
Since anomalous propagation is not confined to anticyclones, it is necessary to look at the effects of other weather conditions on propagation, in particular that of weather fronts and the interactions between fronts and anticyclones. The paper examines these relatively unstudied aspects of radiometeorology in several ways. A brief account of previous work on the radiometeorology of fronts is followed by a statistical analysis of their effects on propagation on a number of links in NW Europe. A conceptual model of the radiometeorology of fronts is presented as are some case studies of signal behaviour under a variety of weather conditions. This work has been approached from the point of view of a meteorologist, so should offer a different approach to the study of anomalous propagation
