Abstract :
Structuring real-time distributed computing systems in the form of networks of real-time objects has become a research and development field of steady growth in the past decade. In addition to the conventional remote method invocation mechanism for facilitating interactions among real-time objects, a multicast support mechanism has been recognized as an attractive supplement. One of the most powerful and practical cases of such mechanism is the real-time multicast and memory-replication channel (RMMC). This paper presents an API set designed for facilitating easy use of RMMCs and a middleware subsystem devised to support RMMCs. It also presents the results of a study on the performance of TMO (time-triggered message-triggered object)-structured multimedia applications which use RMMCs.
