Abstract :
A simulation model of a transport protocol operating in multiple local area networks, inter-connected with bridge stations and using broadcast based random access, has been constructed and used to study the performance resulting from parameter variations. Some of the transport protocol parameters examined include the timeout interval, the window size, and the maximum number of packet retransmissions. These transport protocol options are examined with respect to several network variables such as offered load, a limited number of receive buffers, buffer holding, and processing times. The simulation model structure is described and some results on end-to-end message delays are presented.<>
