Abstract
This paper proposes a new single-switch (SS) three-port converter (TPC) family. The attractive features of the proposed SS-TPCs are: (1) only one switch, two inductors and several diodes are required, the power stage is compact; (2) the duty cycle and switching frequency are utilized for energy management, the control circuit is simple; and (3) the redundant charging and discharging processes of the battery are alleviated because a direct current path from source to load is built, the lifespan of battery can be prolonged. The derivation law, circuit analysis, design process, energy management method and design example will be discussed in this paper. Analysis and experiments show that the proposed SS-TPC family can compromise several critical issues such as size, cost and lifespan of battery, and could be the potential candidates for low-power stand-alone renewable system.
