Abstract :
A major challenge in the design of wireless ATM LANs is to overcome the severe degradation of channel bit error rate resulting from channel impairments such as multi-path propagations. In this paper, we propose a WATM LAN which incorporates the CDMA spread spectrum technique together with hybrid ARQ error control schemes to effectively combat multi-path effects. We present a TDMA based multiple access protocol to arbitrate access of ATM cells from mobile terminals into time-slots on multiple CDMA channels. The multiple access protocol can efficiently support a mixture of real-time, delay-sensitive services and loss-sensitive, data services
