Abstract :
A proposal for a standard for the design and certification of European road transport informatics systems is being produced as part of `DRIVE Safely´ (EC DRIVE project V1051) by a consortium from three different countries. It is intended that this proposal should be given to CEN/CENELEC at the basis for a European Standard. The Institute of Traffic Safety, TUEV Rheinland in Cologne, Germany, have special responsibility for hardware; Program Validation Limited and the Safety Critical Computing Group of the Universiry of Leeds, both in the UK, have special responsibility for software; and the Department of Vehicle Dynamics, TNO Road Vehicles Research Institute in Delft, Holland, have the role of unifying the proposals. The authors describe the work done at The University of Leeds for the proposals for the design and certification of safety-critical software in road transport informatic (RTI) systems
