Abstract :
Summary form only given. We report studies of chaotic WG modes in non-axisymmetric fused silica microspheres through free space excitation. The far field emission pattern from these WG modes exhibits strong directionality and effects of dynamical eclipsing. A comparison between the experimental results and a 3D ray chaos model illustrates the importance of Arnol´d diffusion in asymmetric 3D WG resonators. The 3D ray model, however, cannot account for all of the experimentally observed emission directions.
