Abstract
Computer aided optimization of radiation characteristics of wire antennas by a step by step variation of the geometry has been proposed in the past by several authors. The simple structure of most of the present microstrip antennas suggests looking for improved radiation characteristics by more complicated contours and to do this by a synthesis process. An essential element of such a process is a method for the analysis. This analysis has to be sufficiently precise in the description of the reality. On the other hand the required computing time should be moderate. To meet both of these requirements simultaneously, the methods of Okoshi (1985) and Gupta et al. (1981) have been combined to a new analysis procedure as the basis of the optimization approach
