  • Abstract
In order to analyze ship performance, fitting polynomial equation is established. Least square method is frequently one of fitting polynomial algorithms. Fitting polynomial equation based on least square method has some errors because computer-finite-word-length has some tiny fluctuations to original data or calculation storage and produces some influence. Aimed at the errors, the least square method is improved, and the improved method is applied in ship performance analysis. The fitting curves, obtained respectively by means of the original method and the improved least square method, are analyzed. The research result indicates that fitting-polynomial equation precision by use of the improved least square method is higher than the original method, and the improved method has more reliability and practicability.
