This paper presents a performance evaluation of linear filtering techniques for reducing blocking artifacts in the reconstructed image of block-based DCT-coded images. The performance of filters is measured in terms of the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) for different quantisation (q) and confidence (α) levels
