Abstract :
This paper discusses the dangers of "off-neutral" regulator switching and how current limiting resistors, integral to the booster bypass switch, eliminate the dangers of the extremely high circulating currents associated with "off-neutral" bypassing. The "off-neutral" switching process is done safely and without interruption to down line service. Safe regulator switching has been practiced in Northern California for 30+ years, yet many utilities are not aware of benefits associated with the booster bypass switch. Utilities using auto and fixed boosters and voltage regulators will find this information extremely valuable.
