Abstract :
The INS (Institute for Nuclear Study) 25.5 MHz split coaxial RFQ (radio-frequency quadrupole), a linac that accelerates ions with a charge-to-mass ratio greater than 1/30 from 1 to 45.4 keV/u, is undergoing acceleration tests with a beam of molecular nitrogen (N/sub 2//sup +/) ions. Results so far obtained show that the RFQ operates in accordance with the design. Presented are preliminary results on the emittances of the input and output beams, the output energy and its spread, and beam transmission.<>
