The following topics were dealt with: Sea-Me-We transcontinental subsea cable system; optical networks wavelength routing; WASPNET wavelength switched photonic network for telecommunication transport; optimised wavelength-set multi-stage broadband access network employing arrayed-waveguide grating routers; compact optical switches design using spatial light-modulators; 2.488 Gbit/s all-optical wavelength converter; all-optical routing with passive InP wavelength selective router and tuneable wavelength conversion; non-linear phase apodisation for arrayed waveguide grating passband control; optical WDM networks transmission limitations due to cross-phase modulation; 320 Gbit/s transmission; 10 Gbit/s WDM channels using dispersion-compensated, amplified recirculating fibre loop and concave grating demultiplexer; BT´s WDM trial
