Abstract
Summary form only given. The green fluorescent protein is one of the most popular markers for in vivo labeling and single protein detection. We studied the dynamical properties of the emission of the GFPuv recombinant protein with the pump-probe technique on a purified sample in aqueous solution with femtosecond time resolution. Our comparative study of the excited states dynamics seems to exclude the presence of two distinct electronic states in the isolated chromophore and confirms the importance of the interaction between the chromophore and the proteic cage for a full understanding of the emission properties of the GFP.
