Abstract :
A method for estimating the root radius of curvature at the root of a surface breaking defect is investigated. The technique is based on the dependence of an ultrasonic diffraction pattern on the radius to wavelength ratio. The concept is applied to the case of a fretting wear mark found in pressure tubes of CANDU nuclear reactors; results are analyzed using a wavelet transform to display the key frequency data
