Abstract :
This paper investigates the potential benefits of receiving a limited number of synchronized phasor measurements from the external system for static security analysis. The study is carried out by simulating several scenarios where loads are changed both in the internal and external system buses. External system is modeled by a static network equivalent obtained for base case loads. This equivalent is then modified to retain certain external system buses where synchronized phasor measurements are assumed to be available. State estimation and contingency analysis are performed using different number of synchronized phasor measurements from the external system and accuracy of the results are compared. Preliminary conclusions are drawn and future work is identified.
