Abstract :
Extending from the resource-based view, diverse capabilities of manufacturing plants represent heterogeneous resources, which, coupled with product characteristics, affect performance. Using a three-way classification, this study proposes that `pilot¿ plants provide strategic value through product development effectiveness, `contributor¿ plants are conducive to efficiency in process improvement, and `source¿ plants provide cost competitiveness.
