Abstract :
Advanced knowledge of alternative fuel properties enables cement producers to maximise the fossil fuel substitution rate. This knowledge combined with a special burner technology allows to fulfil the requirements of high temperature level and temperature distribution in the sintering zone of rotary kilns. Most of the available well prepared alternative fuels can already be used in common calciner types. In order to get more flexibility regarding the fuel properties and the degree of preparation a new combustion technology is necessary. A step combustor with a pulse jet system as transport device has been developed as the preferred solution for the usage of lumpy alternative fuels.
