  • Abstract
Supporting VTC in an enterprise communications system is a challenge because of the impact of the large amounts of bandwidth that must be dedicated during each conference. The paper looks at how VTC is supported in the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) SCAMPI (no acronym) telecommunications system. Demands of bandwidth, pre-emption, switching and routing are examined for VTC, as well as other voice and data services. The SCAMPI architecture was changed to support VTC through use of an Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN) application combined with existing services. The resulting implementation provides VTC as a standard service, competing with others for bandwidth. During periods when a VTC is not being held, bandwidth for selected other services is automatically increased without operator intervention
