Abstract :
The continuous development of ubiquitous computing technologies and its applications have brought about a revolution in the education, especially in learning environments. However, these learning environments are often described as 1:1 educational computing, handheld educational computing, and technology-supported educational computing, and so on. To conceptualize and maximize advantages of ubiquitous environment in learning, we must carefully design it according to the holistic perspective. This paper introduces the holistic notion and the model of ubiquitous learning environment. It begins by exploring definition and characteristics of ubiquitous learning, and then gives our understandings of ubiquitous learning environment; after that, we put forward design ideas and a model of the ubiquitous learning environment from the holistic perspective, which includes five key components: physical environment, informational environment, technological environment, interactive environment, and learning community.
