Abstract
Road Traffic Advisor was a collaborative project between a number of leading companies, academic organisations and government departments, part financed by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council via the Technology Foresight Challenge. It ran from April 1997 to March 2001. This paper describes the achievements of the project during its first four years, the evaluation undertaken in the final year, and assesses the potential for further work. The technology provides location specific information relevant to the road and direction being driven by the user and can collect information about recent past performance on that road for both road management and driver information purposes
