  • Abstract
Based on the Window Techniques of DEA, this paper integrates the evaluation index system of sustainable development at home and abroad, and calculates the technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency of the sustainable development ability of energy consumption in eastern, central and western of China from 2001 to 2007. The results show that the provinces and cities of eastern China have a better technical efficiency evaluation results. Especially for the city of Beijing, the waste of domestic energy has been the key factor that constraints the city´s sustainable development. DEA effective provinces and cities (autonomous regions) are less in central China. Only 11 provinces and cities (autonomous regions) in western China are DEA effective, others are all lower technical efficiency. Increasing investment on pollution treatment facilities in Qinghai, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is advisable.
