Abstract :
In order to be able to characterize a packet loss process accurately, short-term packet loss ratios need to be taken into account in addition to the long-term packet loss ratio. We propose to characterize a packet loss process by using a deterministic loss model which takes into account the maximum packet loss ratio, short-term packet loss ratios, and the long-term packet loss ratio. We also propose an adaptive pushout scheme which allows a network node to monitor and control the packet loss process at the network node so that the conformance to the deterministic loss model can be guaranteed
