  • Abstract
This paper reports a novel reservation scheme that supports extensions to the GMPLS signaling protocol for short-lived heterogeneous services in transparent optical networks. The proposed reservation scheme (referred to as impairment-aware priority based reservation IA-PBR) efficiently allocates wavelengths to services with diverse chromatic dispersion (CD) and optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) requirements at 10 and 40 Gbit/s. Its performance is evaluated and compared with an impairment-aware conventional backward reservation (IA-BR) scheme. The significance of IA-PBR and processing time issues are discussed.
