Abstract :
The Optical fiber communication has played a key role in fulfilling increased bandwidth demand of telecommunications networks. The fibers used for this purpose offers more bandwidth than copper cables and electromagnetic interferences is also less in fiber cables. The network components used in modern optical transmission systems consist of couplers, lasers, photo-detectors, optical amplifiers, switches, filters and optical multiplexers. The multiplexers are used to increase transmission capacity on a fiber. The multiplexer are used to combine signals at different wavelengths on its input ports and giving out to common output port. The establishment of optical multiplexers in a real time network is very difficult task. Also the cost required for single test bed is more. Hence implementation of a whole network in real time is not easily possible and demands more cost to. So the other way is to build the computer based simulation which will help to provide hypothetical model of optical multiplexers. The various simulation tools can be useful to assist the modeling and analysis of real time scenarios.
