  • Abstract
The possibility of using different polarization methods for identifying the phase state of hydrometeors has been treated by different authors. However, the disadvantage of most of these works is the lack of statistical processing of experimental data obtained. The results of an experimental investigation of the Z-LDR linear depolarization method make it possible to compare the results of modelling with those of experiment, to determine the line of separation for different phases of hydrometeors according to the minimum probability of the summary error, taking into consideration the polarization separation of the radar channels and their accuracy. The following parameters were measured by radar: Z - radiolocation reflectivity on horizontal polarization, LDR - linear depolarization coefficient calculated as the ratio of the power received in the orthogonal channel (vertical polarization) to the power received in the parallel channel (horizontal polarization). The real polarization separation between the radar channels was about 28 dB
