Abstract :
Successful transmission, in a recirculating loop, of 4×10 Gbit/s with 50 GHz channel spacing, over dispersion compensating fibre has been demonstrated. We investigated reductions in the maximum transmission distance due to SPM and cross phase modulation (XPM) by varying the optical launch power and also by comparing multi-channel and single channel transmission performance. We have shown that precompensation results in compression of the shorter pulses, which enables an increase in the transmission distance, as predicted by simulations reported previously
