Abstract :
We report a newly developed algorithm to estimate the apparent canting angle of raindrops from a linear polarisation-diversity radar system. Based on the dependence of linear depolarisation ratio on the canting angle and attenuation, an estimator for the apparent canting angle of raindrops has been derived, in which the size of canting angle can be directly estimated from linear polarisation-diversity radar measurements. Radar data from the S-band Chilbolton Advanced Meteorological Radar (CAMRa) are used to demonstrate this estimator
