Abstract :
Dual-band planar antennas for Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) based remote sensing are presented. The antenna designed can cover both L1 and L2 bands, centred at 1.575 GHz and 1.227 GHz, respectively. They will be used onboard satellites remote sensing satellites as part of an instrument to measure ocean roughness by GNSS reflectometry, and the meteorology of the atmosphere by radio occultation amongst other applications. Two antennas (Zenith and Nadir) are presented focussing on different requirements. The Zenith antenna points towards space to receive direct GNSS signals for navigation and is a single-element patch antenna. The Nadir Antenna points towards the earth to pick up reflected signals, and is a dual-band array antenna with a higher gain. Simulation and Measurement results of both antennas are presented.
