Abstract
We present a unified view of modulation and spreading for both UTRA FDD and UTRA TDD in the digital baseband. Particular aspects such as monocode and multicode transmission, symbol mapping for uplink and downlink as well as spreading and despreading are discussed in detail. Parameterized software radio is employed to realize all necessary layer 1 signal processing blocks. We develop a systematic view of symbol mapping and spreading which is based on the processing of hierarchical data field structures and which exhibits a remarkable symmetry with respect to transmitter and receiver. This symmetry is only revealed if both monocode and multicode are being addressed by a single simulation setup. We provide a brief review of the respective software radio concepts in order to give a better understanding of our approach.
