Abstract
A drug-information system has been developed to provide expert-level consultation to emergency medical personnel assessing whether to give thrombolytic therapy to patients with acute myocardial infarction. The expert system operates on a microcomputer and has a graphics interface with screen buttons and mouse. Tiered hypertext screens provide basis for expert-system queries, online help and access to explanations of knowledge-base logic. System response time and logic have been optimized to minimize use session time yet provide online warnings of potential hazards. ADMIT considers indications, risks, and patient-specific characteristics that affect final recommendations. Database and summary report capabilities provide documentation and research resources
