Abstract :
A general survey of the latest high-frequency high-power Static Induction Transistor (Power SIT), which is a high-power type of vertical field effect transistor, is briefly reviewed with respect to theother fast-switching power semiconductor devices such as bipolar power transistors,Power MOSFET, and thyristors. Instroduced is a new optimum Power SIT drive circuit including a two-channel PWM signal processing system. A novel improved type of inductive energy-storage resonant chopper-fed switching DC-DC Power Converter using Power SITs and its practical modified resonant switching DC-DC converter versions are originally demonstrated that operate efficiently in a switching frequency range of 50kHz-200kHz. The transient and steady-state analysis of the resonant direct DC-DC converter circuit treated here is generally developed by introducing the definedcontrol variables and disturbance variables. The theoretical voltage and current waveforms in the transient and steady-state operation are confirmed in terms of the automated digital computer simulation procedures. Th~ voltage regulation characteristics for PWM or PFM time-ratio control scheme are investigated on the basis of the theoretical and experimental considerations. The comparative characteristic evaluations of Power SIT type and thyristorized type resonant direct DC-DC power convertors are discussed in terms of cheoretical results and practical considerations.
