Abstract :
The authors first give a brief introduction to surface backscatter theory. They then describe the requirements of a mobile microwave scatterometer which is to measure the microwave backscattering properties of the Earth´s surface. The data it provides will allow better interpretation of satellite radar altimeter data, which has previously been limited by uncertainties about the backscattering characteristics of the surface being observed
