Abstract :
Main lobe temperature errors dictate the specifications of Meteosat II MWS (millimetre wave sounder) radiometer at 110-190 GHz. The effects of the characteristics of the radiometer on the main lobe temperature error have been studied. A relative main lobe temperature error of less than 0.5 K is obtainable. This requires that the beam efficiency is over 95% and known within ±1% accuracy, and the reflectivity of the reflector is over 99% and known within ±0.1% accuracy
