Summary form only given, as follows. The promise of the tunnel diode has long been the advantages of economy and speed. Device performance, circuit simulations and circuit demonstrations continue to show the utility of the tunnel diode when incorporated into a transistor process. This talk will review what has been accomplished and discuss what can be expected of the tunnel diode in the coming years
