Abstract :
With increasing pollution problems, space problems and ecological demands it becomes more and more interesting to introduce SF6 gas insulated substations (GIS) in systems with system voltages of 145 kV and below. Due to the very high requirements of safety and reliability of such substations, good protection against overvoltages is required. Here, the author describes how the development of GIS-metal oxide surge arresters may provide the answer to these distribution system requirements
