Abstract :
This paper presents a systematic procedure for the reliability assessment of substation development options. The procedure is based on a probabilistic cost/benefit analysis and can be used to evaluate different alternatives in terms of both reliability and cost. A commercially available computer program is used to calculate various reliability indices. The technique is applied to analyze 230 kV substation development options for a utility wind interconnection project. The methodology proposed, the indices suggested and the results provided in this paper should prove useful in planning and design of substations for various practical engineering developments.
