By using investigation of the status quo of protection, the authors found out problems exist in protection management of present Chinese historical cities, and carefully analyzed its technical priority in protection for historical cities according to characteristic of network technology. Network technology that has quickly developed in China is brought forward to solve those problems that could not be solved in traditional way, such as public participation and transportation. On the other hand, combining actuality of Chinese historical cities, the paper also points out shortage of network technology application. Most retained historical cities in China are middle and small cities, whereas the development of network technology there are slow generally.
