Abstract :
A set of measurements of the characteristics of antennas loaded by a 3M thin film artificial dielectric is described. It is shown that it is possible to shift the operating frequency of these antennas without increasing the loss. It is also shown that it is possible to build antenna structures (such as slot antennas, flare slot antennas and conformal loop antennas) which are much smaller than unloaded antennas without loss in gain. This type of material represents an extra degree of freedom which can be used during the antenna design process.
