Abstract
The Journal of Earth System Science Education (JESSE) aims to establish through electronic peer review and publication an orderly collection of resource materials for the broadly defined geoscience and related disciplines involved in Earth system and global change education. JESSE seeks submissions which provide substantive scientific content that challenges and intellectually stimulates educators and students through inquiry across a broad range of settings: the classroom, the laboratory, self study, group endeavors, distance learning, etc. JESSE will focus on the review and publication of electronic learning resources where scientific content combined with visualization enriches learning, and metadata and interoperability ensure ease of access and utilization. The Journal aims to stimulate the creativity of educators in the development of quality electronic resources which describe both the state and underlying processes which govern the Earth system, including human interactions, and to provide national recognition to authors through the peer review publication process. Ultimately, the peer reviewed collection will provide a holistic perspective of Earth system and global change science for a broad range of educational levels and settings with ready accessibility by educators and learners throughout the nation and the world. JESSE will initially emphasize the publication of resources to be used at the university level, but will extend to lower grade levels and also to informal education as submissions and user need demands
