Title :

Abstract :
The DC plate power for the four push-pull power amplifiers of the Tri-University Meson Facility (TRIUMF) RF system is provided by a single DC power supply at 20 kV, 130 A, and the amplifiers are protected by a single ignitron crowbar circuit. Frequent failure of the crowbar ignitrons, following an external DC voltage breakdown, led to the investigation of the crowbar performance. Current transformers have been installed in the common B/sup +/ line to the power amplifiers and the anode circuit of the ignitron crowbar in order to measure amplitude, duration and time delay of various DC currents under fault conditions. Similar current transformers were installed in the individual anode circuits of the power amplifiers to provide protection to the complete system in case of an external DC voltage breakdown. The results of these measurements and recommended solutions for operations are reported.<>
