Abstract :
This paper presents a design and experimental investigation of a five-phase switched reluctance motor drive. The system is proposed in an attempt to improve motor performance by increasing the number of phases without a need to increase the number of switching devices. A compact five-phase converter, with improved switches/phase ratio, has been designed and implemented with MOSFETs. The switching algorithm proposed for this converter was formulated into logic equations. A speed control loop based on a 68HC11 microcontroller using look-up tables to linearise the torque/current characteristic has been implemented and tested
