Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. Wireless connectivity for voice and data is becoming an almost universal reality in the developed world. For underdeveloped nations, fixed wireless at lower cost and higher bandwidth efficiency, may dramatically raise the level of service and the population percentage served. The digital signal processing technology which provides reliable communication through the unreliable medium of terrestrial propagation is described, with emphasis on the technologies which are enabling the current rapid accelerating wireless subscriber growth.
