Abstract :
The Hawaii Kilauea volcano has been active for over 10 years. The trajectory and concentration of the acidic aerosol is currently poorly monitored. The authors report on a new effort to alert the public of the vog concentrations using satellite and model products. Satellite aerosol products are derived from the AVHRR and GOES satellite sensors in near real time. The satellite derived aerosol concentrations will be combined with results from a meso-scale dispersion model to better predict the height and extent of the vog plume
