Abstract
The rate-distortion optimization (RDO) technique plays an important role in JPEG2000 coding systems. In this paper, detailed analysis and a novel progressive technique for RDO is presented. Differing from the earlier progressive RDO technique, the proposed technique can eliminate most convex points inside bit-planes and maintain the structure of the final code-stream. It´s easy for hardware implementation with less computational complexity and memory requirement. The experimental results show that the proposed technique can make the more accurate rate control results, and the PSNR performance is optimal. It can be integrated into the JPEG2000 coding systems, and the coding speed satisfies the requirement of the high resolution real-time applications
