Abstract :
Some ideas are presented for the efficient operation of a car alternator. It is shown that by using two drive ratios, an alternator can be operated more efficiently, and this would result in minimization of rotational losses and fuel saving. A new method of speed boundary operation (SBO) is suggested and described. It is shown that by operating an alternator on speed boundary for outputs within the machine´s capability, rotational losses can be reduced and fuel saved. The SBO method is shown to be ideally suited to future passenger cars and other specialized applications.<>
