Abstract
The JPEG2000 standard was introduced for image compression. An analytical model is proposed for accurately predicting the resulting quality of JPEG2000-encoded images, if the bit-stream is transmitted over error-prone wireless channels. The estimation accuracy of the analytical model is validated by simulation results. Such an analytical model can be utilized by the base station to design efficient unequal error protection scheme for transmitting JPEG2000-encoded images over next generation wireless networks.
