Abstract
We have recently reported a novel design method which allows the direct frequency domain design of two-band nonuniform-band maximally decimated filter banks. In this contribution, the basic idea is extended to the design of a more general and complicated class of filter banks, i.e., the filter banks having arbitrary number of bands and arbitrary rational decimation ratios. The perfect reconstruction conditions are given and the almost-perfect reconstruction is achieved by the numerical design of the filters in the filter banks
