Abstract
It is believed that to test a distributed system, the test system itself must also be a distributed one. In our test of Internet routing protocols, this is confirmed again. With a centralized test system, the test ability is rather limited. We propose a distributed test system to perform effective test based on the grasp of the features and test requirements of the routing protocols. This test system is simple in structure. The task dispensing and collecting component (TDC) manages the whole test activity but not involved in test execution. One or more heterogeneous distributed test components (DTC) cooperate with each other to perform the test. Accordingly, the test suite is distributed in organization and heterogeneous in format, which improves the efficiency of the test system and provides the most appropriate description of different test data. From test practice, this test system has been proved to be feasible to test routing protocols.
