Abstract :
The ambulatory ECG systems lack the capability to provide a macro view of the ECG waveforms. The authors present a data compression technique that can be used to compress the electrocardiograph signal for video display. The compressed waveform can be used to distinguish the normal and abnormal parts of the waveform. Therefore, it can provide clues to locate the position of abnormal ECG and improve the diagnostic efficiency and accuracy. The performance of the video-encoding scheme was tested and evaluated on the AHA data base. The compression ratio of the video-encoding ECG waveform can be as high as 300
